Poetry

Poetry to me is a concentrated form of raw emotion. As a poet, I find poetry to be a powerful way to interrogate the lives of the people and places around me. As a sociologist, I find poetry to be an efficient yet exquisite way of saying much about society, effectively mapping emotion onto research.

I self-published my first collection of poetry and photography in 1997, Live a Manic Existence with a Cup of Sanity in Your Hand, and learnt the hard way about book distribution, legal deposits and marketing. I published my second collection of poetry in 2005, From Where I'm Standing, under Landmark Books.

My work has been published in various Singaporean poetry anthologies, including First Words (1995), No Other City (2000) and From Boys to Men (2002). My poems have also been featured on Stylus and The Poetry Billboard, and I count myself privileged to have read at Singapore's first international poetry festival, Wordfeast and the Opening Ceremony of the Creative Writing Seminar in 2004.
